Arsenal legend Paul Merson has warned Arsenal forwy that things will only get harder for him as his career progresses
The academy graduate has been one of the standout players this season as he leads the Gunners’ title charge with 12 goals and ten assists in the Premier League.
Initially entering the team as a utility left-back in 2019, Saka has since established himself as one of the best right wingers in world football.
He is repeatedly targeted by defenders, leading to complaints that he isn’t getting protected, while there was a flashpoint when he reacted to a rough challenge against Aston Villa in February.
The 21-year-old is so far dealing well with the extra attention, but Merson has warned the England international he will have to continue to up his game.
“The problem he will find is because of the position he plays, he will find things harder at some stage,” the 55-year-old told Sky Sports.
“As he becomes more well known, teams will put him on the radar a lot more.
“Teams will look to stop the ball getting to him and they will also double up on him very quickly.
“He will have to change his game again to combat that, but he has the temperament to handle that.”
Merson also took time to praise the youngster, who looks set to similarly become a legend in north London.
“He just loves football,” Merson added.
