An update on Eddie Nketiah’s fitness ahead of Arsenal’s Europa League clash in Portugal.

Arsenal travel to Portugal on Thursday to take on Sporting in the first leg of their round-of-16 Europa League tie & Mikel Arteta has a few issues to deal with in terms of his front line team selection ahead of the match…

With Leandro Trossard ruled out of the fixture & Gabriel Jesus set to travel but expected not to feature, it leaves Mikel Arteta hoping Eddie Nketiah is deemed fit enough to start, otherwise we could see a makeshift front three in Portugal on Thursday night.

Eddie Nketiah will face a late fitness test ahead of the Arsenal squad travelling to Portugal. He’s been carrying a knock to his ankle, which he has played through over the last few weeks, however has been left out of the last few match day squads but he’s now on the brink of a return to the side.

Eddie Nketiah has stepped up immensely in Gabriel Jesus’ absence over the last few months, scoring nine goals and grabbing two assists in 18 starts this season.

The biggest compliment I can give to Eddie Nketiah is the fact that Arsenal still sit in exactly the same position as they were in when Gabriel Jesus got injured over three months ago – five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Despite this the more options the better for Mikel Arteta and having Gabriel Jesus back will be a huge boost for Arsenal in their push to win the Premier League for the first time in 19 years.

If Thursday comes too early for Eddie Nketiah, then he’s expected to be in the squad for Arsenal’s trip to Craven Cottage on the weekend. Either way, Arsenal’s number 14 will be back in action very soon.
