Bukayo Saka has hailed German midfielder Mesut Ozil as the most impressive player he has seen at Arsenal and how he ‘plays in his own world’, as he told Football Focus.
The 21-year-old shared that Ozil, who spent eight years in north London, left him ‘wowed’ by some of the things he would do in Arsenal training.
During the latter stages of Ozil’s career at Arsenal, a fresh-faced teenager in Saka was coming through the ranks when he was handed a first chance by Unai Emery.
That’s when Mikel Arteta entered the building and Saka’s career headed in the complete opposite direction of Ozil’s, who was booted out of the club in 2021.
That call by Arteta proved to be the correct decision because of where the club is now, but it still shouldn’t hide the skill and natural quality the German World Cup winner had at his feet.
Nonetheless, when Saka was asked which Arsenal player left him most impressed when he first joined Arsenal training, he put forward Ozil’s name.
“I think I would probably say Mesut Ozil,” said Saka. “He plays in his own world. Some of the things he does and you look at him ‘just wow’.”
SAKA HEADING TOWARDS LEGENDARY STATUS
Ozil didn’t win the Premier League title in England, but he was a La Liga champion in Spain, as well as a World Cup winner.
Given the road Saka is heading down, there is no reason why he can’t also add those big trophies to his name.
One is pretty close. Arsenal hold a five-point lead over Manchester City in the table and they are fully aware that if the next six weeks go pretty well for them, then they will become champions of England
