Despite a flurry of rumours around the January transfer window, talk of Arsenal being interested in Sergej Milinković-Savić has died down a bit of late.
That was until Corriere dello Sport on Thursday published a big article on the Serbia international’s future, and where the situation currently stands at Lazio.
Arsenal fans will be sorely aware that the Serbian has a contract in Italy until 2024, and this upcoming transfer window could be the last time the Serie A side get to make some money from a sale.
They know this, his agent knows this and the player also knows this, wanting to give Lazio a goodbye present by putting money in their coffers from a transfer.
The problem is that interested clubs, like Arsenal, might be reluctant to spend big when they know he could arrive on a free a year later, and despite Mateja Kezman’s pledge to ‘bring the president offers of €40m’, that might never happen.
Corriere explain ‘the risk is that clubs interested in the Premier League will eventually present offers of €20-25m, at most they could go up to €30m’.
Claudio Lotito would not want to accept those, at least at the beginning, and that’s why there’s a bit of worry setting him.
Despite rejecting Arsenal last summer, it’s said the player ‘would gladly accept’ a move to the Gunners this time around, seeing as their situation has changed drastically since last season.
Either way, if the Gunners offer €40m, he’s theirs, but it all depends on their willingness to do so.
